Tokara was purchased in 1994 by GT Ferreira for residential purposes, but it wasn’t long before the great potential for planting vineyards was recognised inspiring the planting of classic varietals on the 400m above sea-level slopes. The cool air and low temperatures contribute to the excellent quality of Tokara Wines.

Director's Reserve

Tokara Director's Reserve White

Tokara Directors Reserve, produced from the best and most expressive parcels on the highest slopes of Tokara’s Stellenbosch property. Sauvignon Blanc makes up majority of this white flagship Bordeaux blend, followed by Semillon. The wine was left on the lees in 400L French oak barrels for 9 months with regular lees stirring before blending for added complexity and texture. Will continue to develop till 2027.

Tokara Director's Reserve Red

The reserve collection mirrors the special climatic properties of the region and the terroir. Produced from grapes originating from Tokara's premium vineyards on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. This is flagship Bordeaux-style red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The wine spent a total of 22 months new oak and older French oak barriques.

Reserve Collection

Tokara Reserve Collection Elgin Sauvignon Blanc

This Reserve Collection Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes from top performing blocks grown on Tokara’s Highlands farm in Elgin. Each block is chosen for their exquisite flavour and aromatic profile. Only the free run juice from the best blocks is used. After fermentation the wine left on the lees for 5 months with regular lees stirring, for enhanced texture and mouthfeel.

Tokara Reserve Collection Chardonnay

This wine display’s a vibrant golden colour. Aromas of fresh grapefruit, grilled pineapple, star anise and toasted brioche emanate from the glass. The wine enters the palate with fresh citrus flavours leading to a creamy mid-palate with flavours of vanilla, star anise and toasted almond. There is a continuous saline focus and feeling of freshness throughout the tasting experience of this wine. The finish lingers with notes of toasted nuts.

Tokara Reserve Collection Cabernet Sauvignon

Grapes for this stellar Cabernet Sauvignon, originate from Tokara’s premium vineyards on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. Only grapes from the best blocks and from the best parts of these blocks are used. A small portion of Petit Verdot is included for additional tannins, colour and freshness. The wine spends a total of 22 months in a mixture of new French oak and older French oak barriques.

Tokara Reserve Collection Syrah

The grapes for the Reserve Collection Syrah, Tokara's most expressive Syrah, comes from 2 Syrah clones planted on a single vineyard block on the farm, located on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. The wine is barrel fermented, matured on the gross lees for 10 months and is then aged for a further 10 months in French oak barrels. Only 5 200 bottles were produced.

Premium Collection

Tokara Sauvignon Blanc

The Tokara Sauvignon Blanc comes from grapes that originate from Tokara's “home farm” on the Simonsberg side of the Banghoek Valley, that lends structure, perfume and longevity to the wine, and from Tokara's Highlands vineyard in Elgin, a cool-climate area atop Sir Lowry’s Pass that imparts an ethereal scent to the Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are harvested at various degrees of ripeness to add complexity, different aromatics and texture.

Tokara Cabernet Sauvignon

Classic varietals thrive on Tokara's vineyard slopes, situated 400m above sea-level. The cool air and low temperatures contribute to the excellent quality of grapes harvested. Tokara's Cabernet Sauvignon spent a total of 19 months in a combination of new French oak and older French oak barriques. This wine will drink well now but will benefit from cellaring.

Tokara Shiraz

All of the grapes for this Shiraz originate from Tokara's Stellenbosch vineyards. Small portions of Mourvèdre and Pinotage are added for extra depth and complexity. The individual wines spend a total of ten months in barrel, after which the batches are blended together to create an accessible and characterful Shiraz.
