L'Ormarins

This Cap Classique was the brain child of the late Anthonij Rupert, who perfected the CC for L’Ormarins. After his passing, his brother, Johann, continued his dream when he took control of the business. The result of this was a first-class Cap Classique. It is a hand-crafted wine, characterized by elegance and freshness.

L'Ormarins Brut Classique Rosé
The L’Ormarins range was initially established as a Cap Classique range, named after French Huguenot, Jean Roi’s hometown of Lourmarins in Provence. The non vintage Brut Rosé is made in a classic Champagne style, from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with grapes sourced from various select sites in the Western Cape. A long, slow secondary fermentation commences with a further 2-4 years of bottle maturation on the lees.

The L'Ormarins Blanc de Blancs is entirely produced from Chardonnay grapes from select vineyards and vineyard blocks. Approximately 20% of the Blanc de Blancs is barrel fermented. The cuvee is matured for four years on the lees. After disgorgement, the wine is kept on the cork for at least 8 months before being released.

In exceptional years a portion of the best wines are used to make a Vintage Cap Classique in the Anthonij Rupert Sparkling Wine Cellar, La Garonne in Franschhoek. The classic blend comprises mainly Pinot Noir and a quarter Chardonnay. A unique cellar method employed, is that both grapes were whole-bunch pressed together, a technique used by a only handful of cellars around the world. The wine remained on the lees in the bottle for 24 months before disgorgement.
