Buitenverwachting means 'beyond expectation' and the farm lives up to its name, situated on the slopes of the magnificent Constantiaberg. The history of the estate is rooted in the very heart of South Africa itself having once been part of the original Constantia Estate, founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the Cape. Buitenverwachting produces internationally acclaimed wines of great complexity with unique aromatic profiles and extraordinary elegance reflecting their cool climate Constantia location.

Buitenverwachting Buiten Blanc

Buitenverwachting specialises in Sauvignon Blanc, with the slow ripening climatic conditions in their vineyards translating into fresh, crisp and full bodied wines. The composition of the Buiten Blanc varies from year to year, with the 2020 vintage being entirely made from Sauvignon Blanc. Previous vintages have included small portions of Chenin Blanc and/or Semillon.

Historic Buitenverwachting, located in the Cape Town suburb of Constantia, benefits from cool nights and modest day time temperatures, ensuring slow grape ripeing. This translates into fresh, crisp and full bodied wines. This premium Chardonnay was barrel matured for 10 months.

Buitenverwachting's wines show an expression of the unique climate of their vineyards, which are cooled by the temperate sea breezes from the surrounding oceans. The Meifort is led by Cabernet Franc, followed by other Bordeaux red varietals, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

Steeped in history, Buitenverwachting formed part of Simon van der Stel's original Constantia holding, with vines planted here since the 1700s. Current owner Lars Maack, honours his mother, Christine Mueller with this flagship Bordeaux Blend, made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak.
