The third annual Signature Red Blend Report is now out.
68 entries were received from 54 producers for this year’s competition. These were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by the three-person panel, scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale.
Wine lovers, take note: South Africa is on its game for white wines! The country’s whites are now deserving of every wine consumer’s attention, not least for the excellent value they have to offer.
As James and I tasted through almost 500 wines from the country in May this year, we could not help but be amazed as one outstanding flight followed the next of chenin blanc, chardonnay and even sauvignon blanc.
Since making Cederberg their home in 1893, the Nieuwoudt family have cultivated and protected the unforgiving, but beautiful Cederberg region. The idea for the new label was to design a crest that represents the history of the five generations of Nieuwoudts that have lived in the Cederberg.

This is in fact the second year in a row that we have taken top honours, with our Vin de Constance 2013 having won the trophy in 2017.
In what is turning out to be an extraordinary year for Durbanville-based Diemersdal Wine Estate in terms of wine awards, the Diemersdal Private Collection 2016 won the Riedel Trophy for Best Bordeaux-style Red Blend at this year’s prestigious Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show.

The Tokara farm was bought by GT Ferreira in 1995 without a single vine on the property, initially with view to being a “gentleman’s residence.” But with such illustrious neighbours as Thelema and Rustenberg, it was always written in the stars that this prime property would be planted and established as a great wine producing estate in its own right.
JC Bekker was recently appointed CEO of Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons with effect from 1st of June. JC has been at DGB for the last 22 years, where he was Cellarmaster for the whole group including their flagship, Boschendal, as well as heading up the extensive winemaking team
