Diemersdal Estate Celebrates an Award-winning 2023
With the last of the major South African and International wine awards just-in to end 2023, we can look back at one of our most successful years in terms of accolades won at wine competitions and commendations from other ratings platforms.
John Platter Wine Guide 2024
The year ends with Diemersdal’s remarkable achievement in the annual Platter’s Guide to South African Wine where six of our wines received a top five-star rating. This included ‘Sauvignon Blanc of the Year’, with Diemersdal The Journal Sauvignon Blanc 2022securing the highest Platter’s rating of all the Sauvignon Blancs in the Platter’s Guide.
Five star-ratings were also given to two other Diemersdal Sauvignon Blancs: • Diemersdal Wild Horseshoe 2022 • Diemersdal Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2023
The other five-star accolades went to red wines in Diemersdal's extensive portfolio: • Diemersdal Journal Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 • Diemersdal Reserve Syrah 2022 • Diemersdal Private Collection 2021
FNB Sauvignon Blanc SA Top 10
As Sauvignon Blanc specialists, Diemersdal showed its prowess with this variety in the annual FNB Sauvignon BlancSA Top 10 for the seventh consecutive year with the Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2023 claiming one of the coveted Top 10 slots in this show committed to recognising South Africa’s finest Sauvignon Blanc wines.
Veritas Wine Awards
In South Africa’s annual Veritas Competition, one of the country’s oldest and leading awards occasions, Veritas 2023 saw Diemersdal winning three Double Gold medals:
• Diemersdal The Journal Pinotage 2020 • Diemersdal The Journal Pinotage 2021 • Diemersdal Reserve Syrah 2022
At the same competition Diemersdal also won two Veritas Gold medals: • Diemersdal Winter Ferment Sauvignon Blanc 2023 • Diemersdal Malbec 2022
Diemersdal Syrah Reserve 2022
The Diemersdal Reserve Syrah 2022, which also won the General Smuts Trophy for Best Wine at South Africa’s 2022 Young Wine Show, secured two further accolades in 2023. It was placed among South Africa’s Top 12 wines in this year’s Shiraz Challenge Top 12, as well as scoring 94pts in the reputable Prescient Shiraz Report annually presented by leading South African digital platform winemag.co.za.
Wine magazine President Report – Sauvignon Blanc
In the Prescient Sauvignon Blanc Report for 2023 Diemersdal had three of its wines appear in the Top 10 places.
• Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2022 • The Journal Sauvignon Blanc 2022 • The Journal Sauvignon Blanc 2021
In this report Diemersdal’s The Journal Sauvignon Blanc 2022 and Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2022 achieved the platform’s highest scores, namely 94pts.
Decanter World Wine Awards
On the international competition scene Diemersdal underscored its quest for greater complexity in the farm’s Sauvignon Blanc offering by being one of only three South African producers to win a top-scoring Platinum Award at the Decanter World Wine Awards held in London. The Platinum recognition went to Diemersdal The Journal Sauvignon Blanc 2022, a wine inspired by winemaker-owner Thys Louw’s infatuation with the Sauvignon Blanc wines from Sancerre in France.
Concours Mondial du Sauvignon
Concours Mondial du Sauvignon
And in the first Concours Mondial du Sauvignon competition to be held outside Europe, Diemersdal Estate in Durbanville won one of only 26 Gold medals that went to South African producers after this year’s judging, which was held in the Cape winelands town of Franschhoek. A Concours Gold medal went to the Diemersdal Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2022.
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles
At Concours Mondial de Bruxelles it was the turn of a Diemersdal red wine to shine, and here two Diemersdal wines struck Gold medals in the stellar line-up of entrants from throughout the wine world:
These accolades not only provide our customers with a guide as to how Diemersdal’s wines are experienced by informed judges and critics, but also allow us to measure our commitment to quality against the best which the wine world has to offer.
